Hey everyone. I had someone ask me about a sore should a few weeks back and I said it's been a long time, but I know of this pain. I suggested using a towel (like I did) or maybe buying a new strap. Well...I should've knocked on wood as I've had a nagging pain in my shoulder and kneck the past few days. I'm pretty sure it's from the seatbelt material strap I've been using and from not paying attention to how I'm sitting when I'm practicing and working. So I splurged and bought one of those wide leather straps with some padding...mmm :) My bass feels lighter and sits better, and the pain is starting to go away!
The moral of the story, if you start getting some shoulder pain, consider a new strap or putting a towel under the strap. Living with any kind of pain is a drag, but especially one when you're playing!
Oh, and we should also pay attention to our posture and how we're sitting ;)

Hey Lanny, I use transcribe too. I can't imagine working without it, although, back in the day, I used to learn (like we all did) by moving the needle on a record player. I remember I got pretty good at picking just the right groove in the record. I totally agree about your rhythm and notes way of thinking. It's kind of funny that we concentrate so much on knowing the right notes that sometimes we can forget that rhythm is just as important! Good luck with the exercises, if I can be of any help, let me know. Cheers!
Hey Lanny, thanks for the photos. That's a nice setup you've got. I have similar equipment. It looks like you can stand while you're working...interesting. I like the big glass of apple juice too (or is it ginger-ale?) One must stay hydrated ;) Cheers! :)
Totally agree!! Although I have pretty much always practiced playing bass standing up, I have on the other hand always practiced playing guitar sitting down. For me, having a wide padded strap is very helpful and comfortable - along with having the strap adjusted to the right height for playing helps tons... Never could understand how some players can have their instruments hanging down to their knees while playing...🤪
Keep on Thumpin’!
